Need to learn business or computer skills but can’t find a workshop that fits your schedule?

Meet Lynda (.com) at the Middle Country Public Library!

Lynda.com is an easy to use online education database containing thousands of video tutorials on a wide variety of subjects. The business tutorials cover a broad range of topics from presentation fundamentals and time management to popular desktop applications like Microsoft Office and Quick Books.

These highly rated online courses allow busy professionals to learn new skills and keep existing skills sharp.

You can filter the list of video to suit your current skill level ( beginner, intermediate, advanced, or suitable for all) and choose from a list of expert author/presenters. The learning options are arranged into Playlists, Courses, Videos and Articles.

Each course  is made up of 3 – 6 minute videos that covers a single subtopic within the course. A course can be as short as 30 minutes or as long as 16 hours.  Each chapter begins with a summary page that gives you information about the course including; an explanation of the topics covered; a table of contents listing the recommend order to view the tutorials; a written transcript of the tutorial with time markers; a short bio including the authors credentials and experience; FAQs about the course and a link to email your own questions about the content of the tutorial.

If you want maximum exposure to the multiple facets of a new subject, check out Lynda.com’s playlists.  Playlists are a compilation of courses on the same subject.  For example, “Exploring Online Marketing” contains eight related courses, including; Internet marketing basics, email marketing basics, and SEO fundamentals.

Just looking for business news, insight or inspiration? Lynda.com has a database of articles from their pool of experts that include related Lynda.com course suggestions.

Lynda.com is free to all Middle Country Public Library cardholders and Miller Center Members, but is available for in library use only.   However, you can access the database using your laptop computer anywhere in the library as well as from a library computer.
